TEHRAN (IQNA) – Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas condemned and warned against a plan by the Zionist regime to destroy parts of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem al-Quds.

Hamas in a statement underlined that the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound belongs to Muslims and no one has the right to violate its sanctity under any conditions, Palestine Today reported.

Hamas added that Palestinians will defend the holy site no matter what, even if they will have to sacrifice their lives.

It also called on all Arab and Muslim countries to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Jordan also condemned the continued Israeli violations at Al Aqsa Mosque, the most recent of which was excavations near the Buraq Wall, which is part and parcel of Al Aqsa Mosque.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Daifallah Fayez on Sunday reiterated the Kingdom’s rejection for all unilateral Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds, the Old City and at Al Aqsa Mosque, noting that these provocations are in violation of international law.

He added that the management of and maintenance works in the Al Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunums, including its walls and gates, under international law and legal and historical status quo, is restricted to the Jordan-run Jerusalem al-Quds Awqaf Department.

Fayez also called on Israel, the occupying force, to stop its violations and provocations and respect the Old City’s legal and historical status quo.
